Nigeria: A Business Manual
Nigeria, Africa’s largest economy, most populous country, biggest market, and largest oil producer, offers lucrative opportunities rare in current recessed global ecosystem. Yet, it also has major challenges, such as infrastructure deficit, policy flux, governance issues, corruption, insecurity and fraud. This combination often unnerves the business stakeholders. The currently available business books on Nigeria are either dated or hazy – or both.
Amb. Mahesh Sachdev, who retired in 2013 after over 5 years as Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, wrote a unique book in 2014 titled Nigeria: A Business Manual offering valuable, detailed, updated and objective information on Nigeria, its people and its economy. It unravels the opportunities that Nigeria offers for jobs, trade and investments. It provides insights into the Nigerian business ambience and guidance on negotiations, procedures, security and living. It also tries to envision Nigeria of 2030. This book was appreciated as an indispensible resource - for those looking for opportunities in Nigeria for work, trade and invest. It soon went out of print.
On popular demand, Amb. Sachdev has revised and updated his book. The second edition of Nigeria: A Business Manual is now available. The New book has added 4 new chapters dealing with Governance, States, Corporate Sector and Business Events in Nigeria. A 6-page Table of selective World Development Indicators on Nigeria (sourced from latest World Bank database) have been added. The book is now organised in seven Parts instead of six earlier; it now has over 340 pages instead of 304 before. Between the two editions, the word count has gone up from 95,000 to 124,000.
Written in an unambiguous and lucid style, the book examines the existing myths on Nigeria and is not afraid to challenge the conventional wisdom, with logic and humour.
